WHENCODEDECIDES

Move fast and break lives

Narrative Nonfiction

Since the 1950s, some of the world's most brilliant scientists, Alan Turing, Stephen Hawking and Geoffrey Hinton, have warned us about machines that may come to decide over us. Is the risk they spoke of here?

When Code Decides is not about technology. It recounts events where people have met AI, today: individuals who built the technology and tried to warn us, those who were harmed by it without knowing it existed, and parents who lost their children to it.

Eleven stories. As many questions humanity must answer, in areas that will change at their core the day AI becomes smarter than we are:

relationships, responsibility, control, power, work, truth, cover-up, learning, warfare and democracy.

If the experts are correct, we only have a few years left to stay in control.

Will we act, before AI decides for us?
